Slim Chickens


This week I visited one of my favorite southern chicken places in Peoria, Slim Chickens.  This is a go to when my friends come down to visit Bradley or a Sunday morning breakfast.  This restaurant is located on the other side of the river in East Peoria on River Street. They are open every single day of the week from 10:30am – 10pm.  Usually when I get food from here I get a secret menu item, chicken tenders tossed in honey barbeque sauce with fries and toast. However when I went this weekend with some friends I got chicken and waffles, since we went earlier in the morning. There are not to many other places in Peoria that offer his or back home in the suburbs so many of my friends think this is kind of a weird thing to get or have never tried it. The first time I had it I thought the same thing and was not sure if it would be good but it is one of the best things they have there. Everything is made to order fresh out of the fryer and waffle iron. It comes with three chicken tenders, a waffle the size of the plate and a side of butter and syrup. This blend is surprising phenomenal. Even just dipping the chicken into the Log Cabin syrup gives it a great maple taste. The waffle is cooked to perfection with just enough crunchiness on the ends and fluffiness in the middle. Overall this is a great meal and if you have never tried chicken and waffles before I highly recommend this. (Finally I have to recommend one last thing, their Jar Desserts. The chocolate brownie pudding and Oreo cheesecake might very well be the greatest things on earth.) Overall I would give this 5 Slim Chickens out of 5!

This week I changed it up and decided to visit Bradley University’s finest, Geisert Dining Hall. This is the largest one of two buffet dining halls here on Bradley’s campus. They are located on North Duryea Place here on Bradley’s Campus. They are open from Monday – Friday from 7:15am – 8:00pm and Saturday – Sunday from 8:30am – 4:00pm. They serve food all day, but offer the most variety during breakfast, lunch and dinner times. The menu features international entrees, grill, deli, salad, and more. I went to dinner here this week and got a mixture of the options for the day at the different stations. This included steamed corn, butter noodles, French fries, bread sticks, honey ham, and chocolate chip cookies. I have been eating here for most of the four years I have been going to Bradley and the food here is eatable but usually not very good. Tonight’s meal was an average night. Obed and Isaac’s Microbrewery and Eatery

This week I visited Obed and Isaac’s Microbrewery and Eatery, located at 321 NE Madison Avenue, Peoria IL. They are located right down the street from OSF hospital. They are open from 11am-11:30pm every day of the week. This microbrewery is very unique in that the building it is in used to be a local church before being sold and transformed into a brewery and restaurant. This is unlike any restaurant I have been to, especially in the Peoria area. The inside of the building has been updated and tables and a bar have been added, but the stain glass windows and artwork are still the same from the church. The stained glass is truly breathtaking on sunny days when it is fully illuminated. Aside from being a very cool building, they have some really good food. I have eaten here a few times and have tried a few different menu items, such as their burgers, flatbread pizzas, and German pretzels. The Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern

This week I decided to try a new place I have not been to before, called The Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern. My family and I are huge barbecue fans, and a few friends have recommended this place to me. My family came down this weekend and I thought this would be a great new place to try some new food. This restaurant is located on Southwest Water Street right on the river. They are open Tuesday – Saturday for lunch and dinner. This location has a very small dinning room and bar along the back wall. Since it is so small the wit time can be very long. Getting there before the rush of lunch and dinner will significantly cut down on the wait time. We started with the Barbecue Nachos appetizer. This blend of home made tortilla chips topped with your smoked pulled pork, cheese sauce, pico de gallo, spiced sour cream and guacamole.
