The Ice Cream Shack

Image
For this final week, I visited The Ice Cream Shack, located at 2313 NE Adams Street Peoria, IL. They are located near Alexander’s Steakhouse on the other side of Interstate 74. They are open from 10:30am – 10pm every day of the week. They are only open during the spring and summer months of the year. This location is a small walk up and order at the window, local ice cream shop offering sundaes, shakes, and other hot food like hot dogs and fries. The surrounding area has lots of benches and picnic tables to sit and enjoy the food on a warm summer day or night. This was the first time I have ever been to this location or getting food from here. When we arrived the place was packed and there was a long line at the window. Always a good sign when there is a ton of people there so I knew this was going to be good.  Naturally, I ordered the most obnoxious thing I could think of because it is the last week of this blog and why not! I ordered a hot fudge sundae with nuts, sprinkles, and w...

Obed and Isaac’s Microbrewery and Eatery

Image
This week I visited Obed and Isaac’s Microbrewery and Eatery, located at 321 NE Madison Avenue, Peoria IL. They are located right down the street from OSF hospital. They are open from 11am-11:30pm every day of the week. This microbrewery is very unique in that the building it is in used to be a local church before being sold and transformed into a brewery and restaurant. This is unlike any restaurant I have been to, especially in the Peoria area. The inside of the building has been updated and tables and a bar have been added, but the stain glass windows and artwork are still the same from the church. The stained glass is truly breathtaking on sunny days when it is fully illuminated. Aside from being a very cool building, they have some really good food. I have eaten here a few times and have tried a few different menu items, such as their burgers, flatbread pizzas, and German pretzels. This time I thought I would try something new and ordered their chicken and waffles. This is a fres...

Thanh Linh Vietnamese Restaurant

Image
This week I visited Thanh Linh, located on West Main Street across the street from Bradley’s campus. They are open Monday through Saturday from 11am – 8:30pm and closed on Sunday. This restaurant is a local Vietnamese restaurant that offers a verity of classic Vietnamese meals and buffet.  They offer the lunch buffet from 11am-2pm Monday through Friday and a dinner buffet Friday and Saturday. I went with some friends for dinner this week so I was unable to try the buffet, but they said it is one of their most popular meal options. After going through their menu a few times I chose the Sweet and Sour Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice. For those of you that have not eaten here before the plates of food are enough to feed two people! (I did not know this before ordering.) A plate overflowing with Chicken was placed down in front of me, and another plate with a mountain of Chicken Fried Rice placed next to it. The chicken was fried perfectly to a crisp and when mixed with their swee...

One World Cafe

Image
This week I visited One World, located on West Main Street across the street from Bradley’s campus. They are open from 7:30am- 10pm everyday of the week. To be honest I know this place is very popular with Bradley students and locals, but this was the first time I have been here. I told some friends I have been on the hunt the last few weeks trying to find some good barbecue chicken pizza in Peoria and they recommended One World. This restaurant offers a wide verity of food options and desserts, but naturally I chose the barbecue chicken pizza with hand tossed crust. You could taste the fresh ingredients they use in their food. The pulled chicken and melted shredded cheese is an incredible blend of flavor. The best part of this pizza was the barbecue sauce by far. Usually barbecue chicken pizza has a sweet almost honey barbecue sauce but this was a Smokey/ hickory sauce that went perfectly with the hand tossed crust. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who is a barbecue ...

Avantis

Image
This week I visited Avantis, located on West Main Street across the street from Bradley’s campus. They are open from 10:15am to 9:30pm every day of the week. I have been to this location a few times, and yes I have had a Gondola from here but my review is not on that today because pretty much everyone likes their gondolas. But ever since last week my hunt for good barbecue chicken pizza in Peoria is still on. When I was at Avantis with some friends I noticed they have barbecue chicken pizza and the waitress also recommended it say it was one of her favorites so I had to give it a try. After eating lots of their famous bread, the pizza had arrived. It was a hand made pizza with all fresh ingredients and barbecue sauce. Unlike other pizzas it had cut up pieces of bacon strips instead of little chopped up bacon bits and their famous bread as crust making this one of my new favorite barbecue chicken pizzas in Peoria! Overall I definitely recommend this and would give i...

Granite City Food & Brewery

Image
This week I visited Granite City Food & Brewery, located on Conference Center Drive in East Peoria. They are open Monday – Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday and Saturday 11am-12am. I have been to this location once before with my family a few years ago, and thought I would go again for my blog review. This time I ordered a flat bread barbecue chicken pizza. This is my all time favorite pizza and I am always looking for places that have it since there are always so few. The pizza was very good with a tasty blend of cheese and a sweet homemade barbecue sauce. I was going to make my post about the pizza but, then the table next to us was served a cookie skillet with ice cream. Naturally I ordered one for my friends and I. This turned out to be a great decision. It was served in a big iron skillet fresh out of the oven, with an ice-cold scoop of ice cream, and drizzled in caramel sauce. The cookie had big melted chocolate chunks and small chopped nuts baked inside of it. This di...

Burger Barge

Image
This week I visited the famous Burger Barge. I have been to the one by Par A Dice casino a few times but thought I would try a different location out and went to the one on Lake Avenue in Peoria. This location is open Sunday through Thursday from 11am – 9pm and Friday through Saturday 11am – 10pm. This location offers the same beach themed atmosphere and unique burger options. I do think the original one being by the water and more of a dive bar does add to the theme of the restaurant, where this one is just a beach restaurant that is kind of dirty and was very low staffed. They do have a very unique menu with burgers you are not going to find anywhere else in Peoria. I recommend experimenting or creating your own to make a new unique burger. This time I got a cheeseburger with bacon and barbeque sauce, and a side of onion rings that I added to the burger. Over all the burger was pretty good and the onion rings had the perfect amount of crunch to them and a nice be...
